TuesdayThe Presets, Peaches, Junkie XL
Electroclash? More like electroharmony: everything goes with everything at this free-for-all of alt booty, nu rave, and 21st-century indie dance. The big names you know: Junkie XL's a natural fit for the big-tent Ultra Festival (a co-sponsor of the night), and Peaches ought to be reliably audacious. We're more intrigued to find out what's in the record bags of moonlighting DJs Brazilian Girls and Fischerspooner's Warren Fischer. The Presets' bratty electro punk and notorious stage show easily justify their headlining slot, but don't miss Toronto's Crystal Castles' 8-bit tomfoolery. And for those about ready to jack, International Deejay Gigolo's DJ Hell is on hand with the acid test. DJ Pierre and Eyefuel present Afro Acid Miami – WMC Launch Party
Think about this for a moment: when Winter Music Conference got its start in 1985, Chicago house was in its infancy. In fact, it was about the same time that DJ Pierre, Spanky, and Herb J were twiddling the knobs of their TB-303, forging the roots of acid house. Now, two decades after the release of their seminal "Acid Trax," DJ Pierre brings his new Afro Acid Project to Miami to kick off WMC, aided by Ron Carroll, Harrison Crump, and others. Border Community Showcase: James Holden, Misstress Barbara, Mirko
While hard-house maven Misstress Barbara has been inching towards minimal in her recent mixtapes, we wouldn't have expected her to turn up at a Border Community party alongside label founder James Holden. Regardless, this should be the perfect way to start the week, as Holden breaks open a CD wallet stuffed with bristling beats and fluffy, nu-trance accents. Keep your eyes on New York's Made Event crew, who put on tonight's shindig — their WMC lineup is one of the week's strongest. Beat Tactics
