Hella International: Stones Throw takes WMC by storm

WMC is known as a house-music haven, and for good reason, but there's always a little hip-hop that slips through the cracks. This year, LA's Stones Throw label is determined to make its mark on the conference, providing a home for underground flavors of funk and soul. To that end, the label has launched Hella International, a box set of three 12-inch singles featuring cuts from Madlib and Karriem Riggins, J Dilla, Arabian Prince, Aloe Blacc, J Rocc, and more, plus remixes from Four Tet, Dabrye, Koushik, and Madlib. Rounding out the set's fetish-worthiness is the stunning cover art, coming courtesy of Dutch design hero Parra.

The label gets live on Friday, March 23, with a free, all-day party at the Raleigh Hotel's pool. Not only will Stones Throw soldiers Madlib, Peanut Butter Wolf, J Rocc, Egon, and James Pants be holding it down, but they'll be joined by Supreme Team's Karriem Riggins, Do-Over's Haycock & Strong, BBC Radio 1xtra's Benji B, Kanye West's DJ A-Track, and — oddly enough — Ed Banger's Busy P and DJ Mehdi.

If you haven't planned your trip down south, it's not too late: Stones Throw and Uber.com are hosting the Hella International Contest: the winner and a friend receive roundtrip tickets to Miami, two nights' hotel accommodations, guest lists, "VIP treatment," and sundry goodies. Additionally, 15 runners-up will take home the box set.
