SF #265: Cover Design Credit
Artwork by SHAM SAENZ
Growing up in Oakland in the '70s, Sham Saenz developed an understanding of the world that was influenced by social and economic difference, but also by the city's incredibly rich history and strong sense of community. Being excluded created inclusion, and this dynamic informs his work today. Saenz believes the collective unconscious transcends social, geographic, and economic boundaries and can be used as a universal language to communicate ideas and question avowals. He's also interested in examining history, as well as exploring the metaphors, etymology, and mysticism that have been so integral to its interpretation. Saenz's Panoptican, featured in this week's Flavorpill, is currently on exhibit at Mama Buzz Café bbeginning Friday, June 1 through Friday, June 29.
