SF #264: Cover Design Credit

Artwork by BRENDAN MONROE

Brendan Monroe draws on a world of blobbish, slimy, and paint-chipped, trash-laden life-forms and creates coexisting microfauna. The giant cellular structures are cast into empty fluid spaces or embedded in currents of flowing color and brush strokes. Human figures are scattered sporadically in this simulated biological world, most with fairly plain or content expressions, as if everything there were a very ordinary daily occurrence. Maybe this is showing us that there is more to know about a connection between us as full-sized people, and our own microcosmic worlds going on within ourselves. Monroe is an artist living and working in Berkeley, and is represented by Richard Heller Gallery in Los Angeles.
