KATY HAMER
Katy Hamer was born in 1977 and resides in New York City. Her main body of artwork consists of narrative acrylic paintings, featuring stylized portraits of friends. Her creative process and artistic motivation is largely inspired by trips to Europe, particularly Italy. Since 2001, all of her paintings have included the Fibonacci number sequence written somewhere within the parameters of the canvas in an effort to pay homage to the Golden Rectangle of Leonardo da Vinci and Mario Merz.
2005 has brought about a new series called "The Road to Damascus," the artist's attempt to retell the story of St. Paul, using a contemporary subject. Katy hopes to continue this series and progress to other Renaissance-influenced works that retell the story of religious figures, translated by a contemporary eye, with a brush dipped in pop culture.
