JAWA
Hailing from London but a frequent visitor to the States, Nils Davey (aka Jawa) has his fingers in many pies. Some would say this is unhygienic. Others would claim that using telephones with pie on the fingertips is difficult. All this is true.
Freelancing under the moniker Jawabrand, Davey has published his designs in several magazines and books, as well as on limited-edition posters. Along with fellow graphic illustrators Midwich and Groves, he formed Primer. The collective maintains an experimental site devoted to making messes called Uncommunicative. In his spare time, Davey works in partnership with his best friend at their company Jawa and Midwich, recently awarded a lump of metal by Wallpaper* magazine for its work on a range of beauty products.
Despite all this, Davey is always broke.
Primer's Cryptozoology exhibit is currently on view at the Pool (104-108 Curtain Road, London, EC2, 020.7739.9608) through June.
