ANTHONY LEWELLEN
Anthony Lewellen is a Chicago-based artist and native. Since the early '90s, he has been an enigmatic figure on the local graffiti scene and is considered to be one of the pioneers of the art form. His work on the streets earned national and international respect, and he's most recognized for his simple, bold palette and his visually compelling characters. Lewellen's studio work experiments with various methods of image creation utilizing markers, spray paint, enamels, and acrylics. He prefers to use wood, steel, and other found objects that echo the urban landscape as his surfaces of choice. Lewellen's visual vocabulary has evolved over years of drawing and observation of urban life.
