Igor Krenz is a contemporary Polish artist, greatly influenced by his country's Soc Art movement. Soc Artists were members of the Communist Party, but sought to redefine it from within, via their art. Their analyses of collective thinking, interaction, and mutual cooperation among individuals, along with their mobilization aimed at achieving artistic, social, and political goals, all demonstrate tropes found in Krenz's work today.
Krenz's work is on display at Orchard (47 Orchard St, 212.219.1061) as part of the group show Polish Socialist Conceptualism of the '70s, from Sun 1.7 - Sun 1.28 (Thur-Sun: 1-6pm).
